Share your skills. Even if you work two jobs and have only a few minutes to help the classroom or school, there are things you can do to be involved. Ask teachers, principals, librarians and concierge what they need. Maybe you can sew costumes, or write a newsletter, or plant flowers or cut out letters for bulletin board. Be connector. Even if you can not do them all, you know someone who knows someone who can. Make a few phone calls and see if the conductor of the Symphony will come to school and talk to the music class. Do not go into government with a problem, but with a solution. Make sure the child knows that you and the school want success in school. You May want to have a meeting at the beginning of the year, so expectations are clear in mind. Be sure to tell the teacher (s) of your child's learning style and interests. Teachers who use multiple teaching methods to ensure that all children "get it". Know that your job as parent is to enhance or reinforce lessons learned in school. Do not just ask, "What did you do today?" But "Tell me about your science lesson, you learn that you could teach me?"
